In the end...
In 1811 Jonathan was give his ‘Certificate of freedom’ and was given land of 60 acres in Tarrawanna in New South Wales (from Governor Macquarie). Mary’s award soon followed on the 1st of September 1812. Mary married Jonathan on the 10th of February 1817 at St Luke’s in Liverpool (NSW).
In 1823 the family land was destroyed by bushfire and her husband's trade of chair-making nearly perished, the family pleaded to the Governor (governor Thomas Brisbane) for help. By 1828 the family fully recovered and owned almost twice the land they owned before the fire.
On the 14th of March 1833, Jonathan died and was buried in the graveyard of St. Peter’s Church (Campbelltown, NSW). It was here that Mary lived until the age of 82, when she died on the 17th of December 1859. Hers was the first funeral service to be held at the St Paul’s Church of England (Fairy Meadow, NSW).
By the time Mary died she had over 300 living descendants! Mary Wade is known to be one of the first Australian founding mothers having started the booming population growth in Australia. The most famous descendant of Mary is Prime Minister Kevin Rudd!
